Meta launches Waddle World, an AI virtual pet app, in the Philippines on iOS and Android
Meta has launched Waddle World, a Tamagotchi-style AI virtual pet app, in the Philippines on iOS and Android. Social media consultant Matt Navarra spotted it. Users hatch and raise a pixel pet, play mini-games, and keep a voice or text journal that the pet writes up in its own voice. The app is rated 18+, and Meta says it is not a chatbot or a habit-building tool. TechCrunch speculates it may be a test or a precursor to a Tamagotchi-like gadget powered by Muse. It also notes that Meta may want to avoid companion-app risks, since Character.AI and OpenAI have faced lawsuits alleging harm to teenagers. The article reports no security incident, vulnerability or threat activity.
