IANS and Artico Search: 65% of $10bn+ Firms Now Have a Head of AI Security Role

1 fonte(s) · 1 atualização(ões) · publicado 20/10/2026 11:40 · coletado há 3 dias

Research by IANS and Artico Search, published on October 20, found that a head of AI security role exists in 65% of large organizations with annual revenue of $10bn or more. Of these, 18% made it a dedicated position and 47% combined it with another leadership role. Adoption is much lower in mid-size firms (9% at $1-$10bn revenue) and small firms (6% under $1bn). Accountability for enterprise AI governance remains unsettled: CISOs hold primary accountability in only 7% of large organizations, while chief AI officers hold it in 22%. Across all tiers, 14-19% of organizations report that no single executive is accountable. This is workforce and governance research with no direct threat or incident.

Detalhes técnicos

  • 43-48% of organizations across all tiers have no board committee for AI ethics or responsible AI planned.
  • Experience is the biggest driver of security pay differences, ahead of company size and location. In $10bn+ firms, professionals with 8-15 years' experience earn about $35,000 more than those with fewer than 8 years, and the gap grows to about $50,000 for those with over 16 years.
  • The average salary for Deputy CISOs in large firms is $350,000, and for BISOs it is $342,000. CISO compensation data was not included in the report.

Remediação

  • IANS faculty partner Steve Martano advises restructuring security teams so governance keeps pace with AI adoption.
  • He also advises assessing whether the needed expertise can be developed internally before turning to a competitive external hiring market.
