SpaceX reportedly seeks to acquire EchoStar's Boost Mobile to build a hybrid cellular-satellite network in the US
SpaceX is reportedly looking to buy Boost Mobile from EchoStar, according to The Washington Post. Elon Musk is said to have spoken directly with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen in October. The deal would support a hybrid cellular-satellite network and could make SpaceX the fourth-largest US wireless provider. Last year SpaceX bought $17 billion of wireless spectrum from EchoStar, and AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon reportedly rejected Musk's earlier requests to buy capacity on their networks. Boost leases capacity from AT&T and T-Mobile, and such leases are usually nontransferable, so those carriers may have a say. This is business news with no security incident, vulnerability or threat activity.
