NVIDIA pledges $250M in compute over five years to UK agentic AI safety and security research
NVIDIA announced a five-year compute donation worth $250 million ($50 million a year) to strengthen UK research on agentic AI safety and security. Most of the compute will go to the wider UK AI safety and security research community. A share is earmarked for the British Open-Ended Learning and Discovery Lab (BOLD) at the University of Oxford, the Science of Fundamental AI Research Lab (SOFAIR) at UCL, and Imperial College London. Jensen Huang and UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayan publicly backed the commitment. This is industry and funding news with no direct threat or vulnerability.
Technical Details
- Compute will be provided through UK-based NVIDIA Cloud Partners, with infrastructure hosted in the UK. Provider selection, technical architecture and commercial terms are still to be agreed.
- Research will cover secure agents, open-model security and real-world threat mitigations.
- The work will support secure sandboxes, reproducible research and safety assessment benchmarks. It will use NVIDIA OpenShell open secure runtime software and the NVIDIA Sentry reference design.
- The commitment builds on the existing collaboration around the University of Bristol's Isambard-AI supercomputer, which is powered by NVIDIA Grace Hopper Superchips.
