Microsoft releases optional Windows 11 KB5127936 preview update with 41 changes, no security fixes
Microsoft released the optional, non-security preview cumulative update KB5127936 for Windows 11 25H2 and 26H2, bringing them to builds 26200.9818 and 26300.9818. It contains 41 changes, including a faster and more customizable File Explorer context menu, Cloud rebuild improvements, and a refreshed Xbox mode Gaming Task View. Because preview updates carry no security patches, there is no direct threat and no urgent action for defenders. Microsoft also reminded users that new Secure Boot certificates are rolling out to replace the 2011 certificates, which expire in late June 2027. Some devices may need one extra restart after the Secure Boot certificate update is applied.
Detalhes técnicos
- Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) can now automatically reuse eligible saved Wi-Fi profiles, including supported certificate-based networks, during quick machine recovery or cloud rebuild. This is on by default and IT admins can disable it.
- Cloud rebuild can reinstall Windows using an image and drivers downloaded from Windows Update, without USB media, even when Windows won't start.
- The Privacy & security settings page now groups Camera, Microphone, and Location controls.
- A new Restore Summary appears after restoring a backup profile to a new device.
- The adaptive hibernate policy was improved: less hibernation above 80% battery and earlier hibernation below 10%.
Remediação
- Install the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog or through Settings > Windows Update > Check for Updates.
- Because it is optional, users must click "Download and install" unless "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" is enabled.
- Admins should plan for Secure Boot certificate updates before the 2011 certificates expire in June 2027, and allow for one additional restart.
