US Cybersecurity Job Postings Fall 26.4% Year-over-Year to Four-Year Low, CyberSN Finds
US cybersecurity job postings fell 26.4% year-over-year between January and September 2026, according to a CyberSN analysis of JobSpikr data. The 235,786 roles posted are the lowest total in the four years CyberSN has run the analysis, against 273,498 in 2023, 244,911 in 2024 and 320,210 in 2025. Leadership roles fell sharply: CISO postings dropped 38.9% (4,632 to 2,832), cybersecurity lead 41%, director 32.5% and manager 24.4%. Nine of the 10 tracked cybersecurity functions declined; only research roles grew (26.1%). Postings for AI security engineers rose 268.3%, and cyber data scientist postings reached 667 in September 2026, up from 247 in August. The researchers say it is unclear whether the drop reflects weaker employer demand or a return to normal after an unusually strong 2025. Postings in the three quarters of 2026 stayed within 1.5% of each other, which they read as demand settling at a lower level rather than continuing to fall. This is labor-market and industry news with no direct threat impact.
