Aikido Security blog compares eight Mimecast alternatives and promotes its Noon workforce security platform

1 fonte(s) · 1 atualização(ões) · publicado 20/10/2026 13:13 · coletado há 1 hora

This Aikido Security blog post ranks eight alternatives to Mimecast and puts its own workforce security platform, Noon Security, first. It is vendor marketing, not incident reporting. The article argues that gateway-centric email security struggles with hijacked but legitimate vendor accounts, internal mail that never crosses the gateway, and false-positive quarantines. It also says attacks have moved to text, voice and unapproved AI tools, citing Verizon's 2026 breach report, which it says found social engineering by text and voice succeeds more often than email phishing. The alternatives are Noon Security, Proofpoint, Abnormal AI, Microsoft Defender for Office 365, Check Point, IRONSCALES, Barracuda and KnowBe4. The post gives migration guidance and notes that archiving, continuity and encryption need separate planning.

Technical Details

  • Gateway limitation: a compromised mailbox sends from the correct address with no lookalike domain or header anomaly, and internal mailbox-to-mailbox mail bypasses the gateway. Detecting this needs behavioral history of who normally emails whom.
  • Mimecast's internal-mail coverage is a separate service that pulls bad messages back after delivery rather than blocking them first.
  • Noon covers email protection, AI governance (AI tools and MCP servers), device protection (malicious packages, agent skills), simulations and training. Its email connection starts read-only, and device and AI monitoring need an agent on macOS or Windows.
  • Deployment models differ by product: API-native (Abnormal AI, IRONSCALES, Check Point), gateway, or both (Proofpoint, Barracuda, KnowBe4).

Remediation

  • Before switching, document which Mimecast services must continue (archive access, capture, retention, continuity, encryption, outbound controls) and assign an owner to each.
  • Pilot with finance, executives, shared mailboxes and frequent external collaborators.
  • Recreate allowlists, reporting routes and escalation rules in the new system.
  • Keep a rollback route and retire overlapping services only after the replacements work.
