Design platform Canva released Canva Craft, its first image generation model, built by its research team to compete with models from Google, OpenAI, ByteDance and Meta. The article describes a product launch and contains no security incident, vulnerability or threat activity. The model is available to all Canva users through the Dream Lab tab and will also be offered through the Canva API. Canva also plans to support image generation in third-party chatbots such as ChatGPT and Gemini via Canva's MCP.
Detalhes técnicos
- Canva Craft works in two stages. It first interprets the prompt and plans spatial relationships, relative scale, visual hierarchy and text content. It then generates an image of up to 2K resolution in 30 possible aspect ratios.
- The model was trained on human-designed templates from Canva's library (posters, social posts, presentations, infographics, menus) rather than photographs.
- Output can be converted into layered designs with Canva Magic.
- Researchers from Leonardo.ai, acquired by Canva in 2024, contributed to the model.
- Two cost-efficient versions, Craftfast and Craft-ultrafast, are planned for release soon.
