Apple announced the HomePod Mini 2, its first update to the small home speaker in six years. It is powered by the S10 chip and adds Siri AI, surround sound with the new Apple TV 4K, and an ambient "Sound Glow" light. Connectivity moves from Wi-Fi 4 and Bluetooth 5 to Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6. The article says this brings lower latency and "greater security", but gives no specifics. It describes no vulnerability, threat or incident. Preorders start Oct. 30 at $149.

Technical Details

  • Siri AI works standalone, or connected to up to six Apple Intelligence-compatible devices. In that mode it can access Messages, Calendar and Reminders data on the paired device.
  • The speaker remains a HomeKit home hub.
  • Bluetooth Low Energy keeps it connected to smart locks, keypads, sensors and alarms when Wi-Fi is unavailable.
  • Up to four speakers can be configured into a surround system with the new Apple TV 4K.
