Scammers Exploit GTA 6 Hype with Fake Leaks, Early Access and Malware Downloads Before November 19 Launch
Netcraft identified a wave of scam campaigns exploiting anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI), ahead of its official November 19, 2026 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Analyzing GTA VI-themed domains registered between July 1 and October 27, 2026, researchers found four main lure categories: sites impersonating leaker CyberLeek, fake early-access offers, non-existent mobile versions, and fraudulent free-game giveaways. Some sites distribute malware disguised as game installers, while others use content lockers or crypto payment demands to monetize visitors. Since CyberLeek began posting gameplay clips on August 18, 121 domains containing "cyberleek" have been registered, 100 in August alone. This follows a September report by Huntress of a fake GTA 6 download delivering remote access trojans, an infostealer, and a Chaos ransomware variant.
Detalhes técnicos
At gta6cyberleek[.]com, a page mimicking Rockstar offered a download called GTAVI.exe, flagged by 34 of 68 engines on VirusTotal as a trojan. cyberleek[.]click claimed its launcher was malware-free but demanded $100 in cryptocurrency to unlock the game. gta6[.]exposed offered a fake PC version for $199 in crypto, despite no PC release being announced. Mobile scam sites distribute APK files requiring installation from unknown sources, or gate downloads behind "Human Verification" popups harvesting emails and personal data. Giveaway sites like mygta6[.]icu use fake player activity feeds and partial key reveals to push visitors through offer walls. Netcraft anticipates post-launch scams will shift toward fake in-game currency (GTA$) offers and phishing for Rockstar, PlayStation, or Xbox credentials, which could enable account takeover and unauthorized purchases via saved payment methods.
Remediação
Netcraft recommends treating any pre-November 19 offer of a playable GTA VI build, PC/mobile version, or early access as fraudulent, and purchasing only through official PlayStation or Xbox stores. Users should avoid downloading executables or APKs from unofficial sources, never send cryptocurrency for unreleased games, and avoid entering platform credentials on third-party sites promising in-game bonuses.
