Japan's government announced on 6 November 2026 an emergency cybersecurity package worth US$63 million, responding to a wave of unauthorized access incidents and data leaks at Japanese companies and public bodies. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said the government would mobilize all of its resources to raise response capability nationwide, citing the impact of ongoing intrusions on daily life and business activity. A central element is active cyber defense, legalized in October, which allows the government to pre-emptively access servers used by attackers; in cases of possible threat to national security, a support team drawn from the Ministry of Defense, the National Police Agency and the National Cybersecurity Office can be mobilized. The package also creates, by the end of November, a team under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) that will use artificial intelligence to identify flaws in systems and networks, working with technology companies and AI developers in allied countries. Two further units are planned: a cyber rescue team of public and private specialists to give first response to attacked companies, and a group to help the most vulnerable organizations harden their defenses. This is national policy and capability news with no specific vulnerability, threat actor or indicator disclosed, so it carries no direct defensive urgency.

Detalhes técnicos
